Vestibular Rehab

Vestibular rehabilitation is the branch of physiotherapy that deals with impairments to the body's balance system. Symptoms you might experience as a result of these impairments include:

  • Vertigo
  • Dizziness
  • Imbalance
  • Problems concentrating
  • Visual disturbance
  • Hearing changes

Lee Chambers is our vestibular therapist and treats people suffering from conditions such as:

  • Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV)
  • Labyrinthitis and vestibular neuritis
  • Vestibular migraines
  • Meinere's Disease
  • Concussion related dizziness, vertigo and imbalance
  • Cervicogenic dizziness
  • Poor balance due to aging

Based on the initial assessment, treatment may involve specific exercises for your balance system or procedures such as the Epley manoeuvre, where indicated.

Your initial appointment is one hour in duration to allow for a comprehensive assessment to diagnose the cause of your symptoms and initiation of treatment. The tests carried out in the initial assessment may reproduce some of your symptoms. Because of this, we advise that you may wish to bring a companion who could accompany you or drive you home after the session.

Biomechanical Assessment and Orthotic Prescription

Faulty biomechanics (how your body moves) can be a key reason for injury and recurrent injury. The prescription and use of custom made orthotic insoles can help normalise biomechanics and recovery from injury. Our orthotics are casted in clinic and manufactured in Ashbourne insuring quick delivery.

Bike Fitting

Just like running, a faulty bike set up and bike mechanics can lead to a variety of injuries, including knee, lower back, neck and shoulder, achilles, wrist and hand injuries. Here at PMC Physiotherapy, we are fully equipped and trained to do a full and thorough bike fitting service to help you avoid injury and improve performance.

Dry Needling and Acupuncture

Dry needling involves the insertion of sterile single use acupuncture needles directly into myofascial (muscular) trigger points. Trigger points are tight, tender knots within soft tissue which can cause pain and dysfunction. The insertion of needles into trigger points can

  • Promote local flow of blood to the injured area.
  • Block the neural pathway that causes pain.
  • Release endorphins to ease the pain and inhibit the pain/inflammatory cycle

Sports Specific injury Prehab and Rehabilitation

We believe that prevention is better than cure. Our Services If you are getting recurrent injuries or are about to resume training, a pre-injury screen is beneficial. We aim to find any weaknesses or movement dysfunction you have and correct them with a sports specific, functional exercise programme. If injured, you will be given a sports specific rehabilitation programme from our gym that will progress you from the treatment table, to the gym and onto the pitch.

Strength and Conditioning

As a certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Paul has the expertise and experience to prescribe you a conditioning programme from our gym to allow you reach your goals, be that elite sport or just to get on the ladder to health.

Ergonomic Workplace Evaluations

A huge part of our work is dealing with back and neck pain. A major part of this is our sedentary lifestyles based at the desk in work. Proper sitting posture and a work station to suit you can often be the first step towards allieviating symptoms.
